Where they started
JK Carpets was founded in 1985 by John and Pam Kulick in Locust Grove, VA. John started in the flooring industry as a young teenager, learning the trade through his father, and continued as a flooring installer before deciding to start his own business. His wife, Pam, had an accounting background and naturally took responsibility of the bookkeeping and ordering, while John provided estimates, scheduled installations, and completed jobs along with other JK Carpets installers.
They started out with a small showroom and office, with a separate rented storage space as their warehouse, just outside of Lake of the Woods. As their business grew, so did their need for space, and in 1996, JK Carpets built their current building, on Germanna Highway, that houses their showroom, offices, and a 5,000 square foot warehouse.

Where they are today
Kent Kulick proudly continues the family business following Pam and John’s retirement in 2025, carrying forward a legacy built on trust, quality, and personal service. Their goal remains the same: to ensure everyone who walks through the door feels like family.
A strong majority of the business comes from repeat customers and referrals—a testament to the lasting relationships they’ve built over the years. They’ve also developed long-standing partnerships with respected manufacturers and flooring providers, including Eastern Flooring and J.J. Haines, who honored them as Retailer of the Year in 2014.
The Kulick family has lived and worked in Orange County, Virginia for more than 40 years, making this the community Kent proudly calls home. They are active members of the Orange County Chamber of Commerce and remain deeply committed to serving their neighbors.
